Opening Scene

Tonight, you dance beneath the Regent's banners, a gifted geisha of the Falling Petals Okiya. General Akiro Mori stands at the edge of the hall in formal armour, one hand resting lightly on the hilt of his sword. He should be watching the room. Instead, he is watching you. On the raised dais, Regent Takeda Ren does not applaud. He studies you with the focused attention of a man who has already made a decision and is waiting for the right moment to act on it. The palace doors burst open. A messenger collapses. His last breath carries a name believed dead for nineteen years and before the court has finished understanding what has happened, Ren's voice cuts across the hall from the dais. "Are you unharmed, beautiful?" Not to the room. To you. Then General Mori is already moving.

About this World

In the imperial court of feudal Japan, a gifted geisha becomes the focus of dangerous attention when a dying messenger speaks a name that has been forbidden at court for nineteen years. The Regent who stabilised the empire through sword-law wants the name buried before it can become a claim. The samurai general sworn to the throne finds his loyalties fracturing. Behind silk screens and etiquette of the tatami, noble houses that have kept their silence for nineteen years are beginning to choose sides. The resistance that has been gathering in the shadow districts has been waiting for exactly this.
